Single in London - 2 March 2006
Day two of my single and dating diary...the builders are still here. I think I have another week or so of them arriving early and leaving the doors open so that the flat is freezing cold. Still, I am sure it will look stunning when it is done. Got a call from a friend of mine who has a broken computer. He wants to borrow my broken laptop - the one where I put my thumb through the monitor, so things must be pretty desperate.
I paid my first visit to the Groucho Club this afternoon. Took Simon, my business partner along with me, although he was suffering badly from a cold. That seemed to give him the excuse of downing several double brandies in succession. A bit about the Groucho Club...well, it's predominantely for people in media and publishing, consciously slightly down at heel and full of luvvie waiters and waitresses. It is comfy and somewhat eclectic. We arrived early and the reception staff told us we had to wait in the lobby or call Jo and get her to 'have us admitted'. To be honest, the lobby was fine so we sat there until at 4ish, there was clearly a shift change. New receptionist very quickly got rid of us to the bar area. Amazingly it was busier and buzzier at 3.45 than by the time we left at around 8.00pm. It is one of those places that has built it's success on being hard to get into (at least by reputation). The Groucho club takes it's name from Groucho Marx's famous saying "I sent the club a wire stating, PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER." I wouldn't advise it as a dating location - unless you are going out with someone very famous. We did a little people watching, but neither Simon nor I are really up to speed with whose who in media...so, Jo pointing out 'that very famous comedian' meant absolutely nothing to us.
Just one more day to go until the weekend! I'm off to a singles party on Saturday night, with Meet at Last. It sounds like a good event, but I havent got a clue what to wear and I will have to think of something fun and flirty but that I can wear with confidence. It's a little sad when your Christmas extra pounds are still there in March...but mine are!
Anyway...day two over, and time for bed!
