Find love in the UK
The world is changing. Ten years ago we had no internet, no email and mobile phones were limited to the very wealthy or to businessmen who needed contact ability on the move!
Now, over 90% of us own a mobile phone, can access the internet and use email to communicate. That means we can keep in contact with people whereever they are in the world - somehow though more and more of us can't find someone special for ourselves!
Along with the great expansion of communications facilities comes a trend to single life. Perhaps now that we can talk to anyone whenever we want, there is less of a reason to find one SPECIAL person who will always be there...
It doesn’t seem to stop us looking - but we all seem to have all got a lot fussier – there are more single households now than ever before…and forecasts suggest that trend is due to continue.
So, what options are there for the singletons of the UK?
Traditional ways of meeting a partner still work. Meeting someone through friends, through work or through a shared interest helps to ensure that the person has something in common with you. And, there’s the added advantage of having the social references for the individual easily at hand – haven’t we all been warned by our friends about the player who may be a great short term fling but an unlikely long term bet?
However, there is a plethora of new ways to meet your man, and if you are keen to find a man or a woman quickly, it makes sense to try a number of options!
Online dating sites like Yahoo Personals provide an easy route to find someone suitable. Make sure you take some simple precautions to make up for the lack of social references…it’s far too easy to think that you know someone because you have chatted online for a week or so before you meet up. And, strangely enough, men seem to be comfortable to tell complete strangers on the internet things that they’d never tell a less virtual acquaintance on first meeting…so the whole thing can be very misleading.
Some of the best sites let you chat online…and it can get quite addictive. Our favourite sites also help you find someone who live within a reasonable distance of you…quite important if you are looking for more than just a one off date and night out.
Singles events have lost a lot of their ‘on the shelf’ image…and become fun things to do. You can learn to Salsa, meet a man a minute with speed dating or simply try wine tasting…all with a group of like minded and similar aged people to you. Lots of women take a friend along to be sure of a great night out, even if they don’t meet the man of their dreams.
What to remember…just make sure you know enough about the man you think may be your soul mate. Ask for a home number as well as a mobile and be suspicious if one isn’t available, aim to introduce him to friends early on and ask him to do the same with you – and remember that unlike more traditional ways of meeting, you have no network of friends in common who can tell you all about him.
Most importantly…remember, you are DATING and don’t take it all too seriously…the idea is to have fun – romance and everlasting love may come later…but make sure you have a good time looking!
